Holiday - There is no school next Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day

 

Next Week's Schedule - We will not have ASAP and no blocking periods the last two weeks of school.  We will have periods 1-6, lunch and periods 7 & 8.

 

C2 Club - C2 is having their last big event for the year on Tuesday during lunch in the MPR!!! There will be music, games, food, and a great message. Everyone is welcome!!

 

Redhawk Participant Pizza - Today is the Redhawk Participant Pizza and Root Beer Float Lunch in the MPR celebrating Community Service involvement. All students who submitted completed paperwork for Community Service or Promotion with Honors recognition are invited to attend and should have received invitations.  Not sure if you're eligible? Check the windows outside Ms. Bloch's room to see your name. 

 

Indio High School Basketball - Attention all girls who will be attending Indio High School next year.  If you want to play basketball for Indio High you need to attend summer practice.  They begin on Monday, June 10th at 3pm.  Also, sport physicals will be given on the campus in the medical education classroom #35 on June 4th from 3pm-5pm.  The cost for the physical is $25.00.

 

LQHS Basketball - Attention any 8th grade boys that will be attending La Quinta High School next year and are interested in playing basketball.  There will be General Athletic Physicals held on Wednesday, May 29, at 3:00 in the LQHS gym… $25 CASH ONLY.  All athletic paperwork will be available. Basketball tryouts for the summer team will be Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8, from 9am-11am. 

 

Shadow Hills High Basketball - Shadow Hills High School is running a summer program for all incoming freshman interested in playing basketball.  Try-out and open gym times will be starting Tuesday, June 11th and Thursday, June 13th from 6pm-8pm in their gym.  They are offering physicals from 5pm-7pm in the gym on June 5th.  Come and get a flyer at the front office.  The High School is also offering Athletic Physicals on June 5th from 5pm-7pm and the cost is $20.00

 

Aquatic Trip: Today is the deadline to turn in your permission slip and money if you are planning to attend the field trip at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center.  Please bring your money and form to Mrs. Nuño in the front office. 

 

Magic Mountain - Attention all eligible 8th graders, Magic Mountain tickets are on sale after school only in room 508 The cost is $80.00 with a permission slip and tickets are limited. Don't miss out on your 8th grade trip!

 

Dance - Don't forget to come out and support your wonderful JGMS and T &T Dancers today.  We will have lots of yummy baked goods as well! Show starts at 6:00. See You There!

 

Ultimate Day of Service - The Ultimate Day of Service is tomorrow Saturday, May 25th from 8am-1pm in our parking lot.

Water Day - Today is Water Day!  Teachers, please be sure that you are looking at your list of students that are eligible and making sure that each student that leaves your class has a signed permission slip.  6th graders will be leaving from their 1st period and returning to 3rd.  8th graders will be leaving 3rd period and returning to their 4th period.  7th graders will be leaving 4th period and returning during 5th period.

Please bring old TVs, computer modems or anything electronic that you no longer use to JGMS between 9 and 2.  Ask your parents and neighbors if they need to do some spring cleaning. EYE club wants to keep eWaste out of the landfills because it causes mercury contamination.

College to Career week continues tomorrow with "Career Day" Wear an outfit which depicts the career you would like to pursue, such as a lab coat or suit and tie or hard hat.  Be creative.

Remember students it is never too soon to begin planning for your future.

Talent Show: Would you like to find out who is the most talented student in the school? Then come to the JGMS Talent Show tomorrow Friday, May 17th from 6-8 p.m. in the JGMS MPR. Doors open at 5:30. College and Career Week continues!

We would like to thank Mrs. Sexson and Mrs. Cardinal for organizing another fantastic Career Day!  We couldn't have done this without your hard work and devotion.  Big hugs! And thank you to all the teachers who hosted guest speakers for the day, it makes a difference in helping students prepare for high school and college and getting some ideas of what careers to pursue.

College to Career week continues tomorrow with "College Day" Wear the colors or shirts from your favorite college, such as Oregon State, go black and orange!  Or some other cool university!

On Friday, it is career day!  Wear an outfit which depicts the career you would like to pursue, such as a lab coat or suit and tie or hard hat.  Be creative.

Art Show: All JGMS students and staff, family and friends are cordially invited to the most inspirational event of the year! The JGMS Fine ARTS Gallery Reception.  This wonderful art show will take place this Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the JGMS MPR from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and best of all admission is free!  This year we are honoring the elderly with a one of kind collection of drawings that will take your breath away! Most of all come celebrate with us another one of our many experiences this year! This one, we believe is a once-in-all-history event!!!!

 

Talent Show: Would you like to find out who is the most talented student in the school? Then come to the JGMS Talent Show this Friday, May 17th from 6-8 p.m. in the JGMS MPR. Doors open at 5:30. The cost is only $5 for adults, $4 for students, and kids under five are free! You can buy tickets from any ASB member, in room 205, or at the door. See you there!

 

Aquatic Trip: Anyone interested in going to the field trip at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center, please bring your money and form to Mrs. Nuño in the front office.  The deadline to turn your permission slip and money is Next Friday, May 214th.  First come, first serve!

eWaste Event: The eWaste Event is this Saturday, May 18. Please bring old TVs, computer modems or anything electronic that you no longer use to JGMS between 9 and 2.  Ask your parents and neighbors if they need to do some spring cleaning. EYE club wants to keep eWaste out of the landfills because it causes mercury contamination.

Testing - 8th graders will be taking their Science test today.

Please be respectful in the hallways during passing periods. 8th graders, good luck we hope you hit it out of the park!

 

Testing Schedules - The schedule will be backwards today for all students.

All students need to report to your 8th period class. 

8th graders, today is your last day, take your time and do your best.  Please listen for Dr. Salehi's announcement at 8:04am to be released for snack time.  After Testing is over at 10:26am, you will go to your 4th period class, then 3rd, lunch, 2nd and 1st.

 

6th and 7th graders also have a backwards schedule. It will be periods 8th thru 3rd, then lunch from 11:54am-12:34pm, then 2nd and 1st for your last period.

Testing - Today 8th graders will be taking the History test and tomorrow the Science test.

Testing Schedules -

The following is the testing schedule for 8th grade students only:

 You will report to 1st period, and at 8:04am you will go get your snack and then report to your 2B period for testing.  Testing will be over at 10:26am.  You will then go to 5th & 6th period, lunch and then 6th & 7th periods

 

6th and 7th graders are going to attend all their periods, just like you did on Monday.  You will report to periods 1 thru 6th, then lunch, then 7th & 8th

 

- There will not be any bells until all the students are done with testing.

 

8th Grade Math Field - There will not be practice for math field day for all 8th graders today.  Please meet at lunch Thursday and Friday in room 408.  Team members must attend.

 

Promoting with Honors - To-day is the deadline for any student planning on promoting with honors or receiving recognition for community service hours. All paperwork should be turned in to Ms. Bloch, room 504.  Great job everyone!

April is Environmental Awareness Month - If every newspaper was recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year. Unfortunately only 27% of all American newspapers are recycled.

T&T Dancers - The T & T Dancers will be performing tomorrow Saturday, April 27th for the town of La Quinta's Birthday Party at 10:00am behind the La Quinta library on Calle Tampico. Come out and see us and support your schools and community as well! 

 

8th Grade fundraiser  - This Saturday, April 27th the 8th Grade class will have a Car Wash fundraiser from 8:00am - 12:00pm by Bobby's Detroit Restaurant in La Quinta (near IHOP).  Please come and support our 8th graders!

Walk-A-Thon- The JGMS Walk-A-Thon is THIS Friday, April 12th…in just 4 days!! 

 Here is the Leader Board so far:

  • Highest Individual - It is a 5 way tie between Cassantra Kyaw, Morgan Colvin, Pablo Vargas, Emilia Brady & Angelica Sonta ….. all 5 have donations of $250 each
  • Grade level in the lead…….Congratulations 6th grade you have pulled back in the lead with $3808.37, 7th grade you are a close second with $3155.55 and 8th graders you have donated $1651.05.
  • Science Class in the Lead - is Mr. Harper's first period with $958.00….Mr. Harper's classes are ahead with $3417.00….Congratulations Mr. Harper!!

As a reminder Red Hawks…..to be able to participate during the Walk-A-Thon there is a minimum $5.00 donation.

 

There are lots of activities going on during the walk-a-thon…..Zumba in the birdcage, races for distances from 400 yards to the mile, AND a Basketball tournament…….

· For the Basketball tournament put your teams of 5 together and turn in your pledge sheets and rosters to your Science teachers.

  • For the distance races the signup sheets will be inside the locker room

Additional pledges will earn some really great prizes. 

· $15 - E Pels lemonade or mocha

· $30 - one time front of the line pass with a buddy pass

· $50 - one-time "forgot your lanyard" pass

· $75 - Walk-A-Thon lanyard pin

· $125 - $20 iTunes or Google Play gift card

· $250 - Limo ride to ice cream and home after school

· $500 - $100 gift card, your choice of locations

· $1000 - Principal for the Day

· $2000 - Ipad

 

v Grade level raising the most money - Dance in Birdcage / MPR during 7th & 8th period

v Science Class raising the most money - Lunch party

v Individual raising the most money - Minimum amount of $2000 - you and 3 friends get choice of one of the following 1) Lunch and Movie at The River; 2) Day at Palm Desert Aquatic Center; 3) Day at Knotts Soak City,  All activities will take place during a school day

 

LISTEN UP ALL GRADES!!  The Harper /  Mekemson Dress challenge needs to be clarified!!  The challenge is ……If both the 7th grade & 8th grade (independently) raise more than the 6th grade, then Mr. Meckemson & Mr. Harper will wear dresses to school on the Thursday before the walk-a-thon.

 

Red Hawks lets be Ready and Reach Out and help to equip our school with IPads and Chromebooks for everyone to use!! Please turn in your pledges to your Science teacher every day.

 

TESTING SNACKS - TESTING SNACKS - Thank you to everyone who have brought in their testing snacks already……..here are our totals so far :

  • Juice Boxes -   1735 - 1006 = 729 still needed
  • Rice Krispy treats -  1300-780 =  520 still needed
  • Fruit Snacks - 3035 - 1162 = 1873 still needed
  •  Granola Bars - 6070 - 3546 = 2524 still needed
    • Remember each Red Hawk gets a raffle ticket when you bring snack items to the office.  The first raffle drawing takes place today!

 

Police Cadet Academy - It's that time of year again, applications are now being accepted for the 2013 La Quinta Police which will be July 8th to August 8th. There are only 50 openings so pick up your applications in the JGMS office and get them turned in soon.

 

Yearbooks - Pre-order your 2012-2013 yearbook now!  Don't delay….$45.00 is the cost, order forms are available outside of Ms. Noble's room - 306
