African American history is filled with the tales of inspiring individuals-many of who overcome great odds to leave their mark on the United States. In this group, we examine the lives of African Americans who have made extraordinary achievements in their fields, including inventors such as George Washington Carver; activists like Malcolm X and Rosa Parks; athletes such as Willie Mays and Michael Jordan; and entertainers like Bessie Smith and Oprah Winfrey. Their names, and their stories, have become synonymous with the rich legacy that is African American culture. The Black History Parade was located on Palm Canyon Drive in downtown Palm Springs at the Palm Springs stadium. This year for the Black History Parade the performances were to be kept quiet, but one of our fellow classmates, Rayvon E-Welch, performed and did a great job. There were games and lots of delicious food. They also had souvenirs to buy, drill teams, and drum squads, marching bands, dance troupes, and parade entries on wheels. All these wonderful things for everyone to enjoy.
