Amistad High School came into existence in the 1960s as the continuation school for Desert Sands Unified School District. Initially located at the District Office the school was originally called Desert Sands High School. In the 1970s the school was relocated to a group of portable classrooms on the Indio High School campus and renamed Amistad High School. In 1982 Amistad High School moved its operation to a light industrial park located on Golf Center Parkway and Avenue 45. In 1989 Desert Sands Unified School District located Amistad High School in its current permanent building at 44-801 Golf Center Parkway. Amistad's enrollment has grown from a handfull of students and a staff of 3 to our current enrollment of almost 500 students and a staff of over 30. The 2006/07 school year saw almost 700 students access Amistad's program at some time during the school year. 145 seniors graduated in June of 2007 from Amistad High School. Another 47 students graduated in July of 2007. With a total of 192 graduates, the class of 2007 became Amistad High School's largest graduating class in school history!
